Philip J. Gannon Scholarship
Philip and Lois Gannon were both lifetime educators whose individual and combined contributions to the Lansing area have allowed countless numbers of individuals to have access to educational opportunities. Their dedication, innovation and perseverance have led to social and economic success for individuals, the community and future generations. Their passion has led to a community-wide commitment to lifelong learning as the pathway to success at both Lansing Public Schools and Lansing Community College.
Philip and Lois’ son Michael and his wife Ruth, have established this scholarship in honor the Gannon because of the love and respect they have for them. Michael was selected as the 2012 Lansing Community College Distinguished Alumni. Philip and Lois Gannon were honored to be recognized and present at the Spring Graduation Commencement when Michael received his award and addressed the graduates. Michal and Ruth Gannon desire that this scholarship be available to support any LCC student desiring to have the opportunity to experience the powerful gift of education that were central to Philip and Lois achieving their success and passion for a career spent helping others to learn.
Qualifications
- Recipients must carry a minimum of 6 credits
- Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA
- Preference shall be given to applicants enrolled in vocational, technical or business curriculums
- Preference shall be given to non-traditional students who have overcome adversity in their life, have academic potential, and a career goal
- Financial need will be considered
