Hal Gross Communications Scholarship

Harold “Hal” F. Gross was a Lansing radio and TV pioneer, and former president of Gross telecommunications. He received a license for Lansing’s first radio station in 1934 “WJIM-AM”, named after his son James. In 1948, he received a license for the first television station outside of Detroit “WJIM-TV”, now WLNS-TV. Hal established this scholarship to support LCC students pursuing their education in telecommunications and communications.

Qualifications

  • Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in the Communications, Computer Science or Digital Media program at LCC
  • Recipients must carry a minimum of 12 credits
  • Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.6 GPA
  • Recipients must be residents of the Lansing Community College District
  • Recipients must be graduating high school seniors interested in a career in Communications or Telecommunications
  • Financial need will be considered
