Juanita R. Clemmons (Velasquez) Memorial Scholarship
Juanita “Jeanne” Clemmons was a lifelong resident of Lansing, where she also raised five children as a stay-at-home mother. Jeanne also served as the family in-home daycare giver and was instrumental in raising other special nieces and nephews who were the benefit of her loving and gentle nature.
As the oldest in a family of fifteen siblings, the value of an education was a continuous message instilled by their parents, Maria and Felipe Velasquez. As a result, and after raising her family, Jeanne returned to higher education and received an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Lansing Community College. After receiving her degree, she joined the business workforce and was employed by the State of Michigan until her retirement.
This memorial scholarship is established to honor the life of “Jeanne,” a beloved Mother, eldest Sister, favorite Aunt, loving Grandmother, and special Great-Grandmother to numerous family members and is missed immeasurably.
The endowment of this scholarship will serve to support full-time students in any program discipline at LCC who are graduates of a Lansing area high school, including Waverly, Holt, East Lansing, and any charter school.
