Beverly and Karl Haug Nursing Scholarship

Beverly Haug began her 50-year nursing career in 1961 when she received a $300 nursing scholarship that allowed her to enter Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1964 as a Diploma Nurse. She took her next step in 1980 and completed the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Michigan. Beverly retired in 2011 after a long and satisfying career.

Karl Haug, her husband, has been with her every step of the way, celebrating her scholarship, lifting her spirits when things didn’t go well, and encouraging her throughout her career. Therefore, they are establishing this endowment together.
They moved to Lansing in 1970, and Beverly worked at Lansing General Hospital, St Lawrence Hospital and finally retired from the Sparrow Health System. Karl worked for the State of Michigan Social Security Disability program for 27 years. An endowment at LCC for a nursing scholarship seemed to be a good way to pay it forward.

They want scholarship recipients to focus on their studies without worrying about where the next semester’s money will come from. Then, maybe sometime in the future, they may also choose to pay it forward.
