Florence Clement Kremer Scholarship
Mary Ellen Kremer was born in Escanaba, Michigan, to Edward Kremer, and Dorothy Hammond Kremer. Mary (Molly to her family) grew up in Pontiac and graduated from St Fredrick’s High School in Pontiac. Upon HS graduation she joined the secretarial pool at Pontiac Motors. Rising thru the ranks she became an executive secretary and was ultimately transferred to Oldsmobile in Lansing serving as the executive secretary to the General Manager.
She married Keith Rathbun on July 15, 1978, and together they enjoyed family activities such as golf, hunting, fishing, skiing, and living life to the fullest. She and Keith were lay ministers at St Casimir’s Catholic Church in Lansing and they both supported philanthropic endeavors in the greater Lansing area including Michigan State University and Lansing Community College. She loved Michigan State football.
Mary established the Florence Clement Kremer Endowed Scholarship in honor of her step-mother. Florence was a graduate of the University of Michigan and was an avid supporter of women’s rights.
Qualifications
- Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in the Accounting, Science, Business, Engineering, Education, Communications, or Health Careers programs.
- Recipient must carry a minimum of 12 credits
- Recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
- Recipient must reside within the LCC district
- Scholarship recipients must have plans to pursue a bachelor degree
- Recipients who are female and entering college for the first time will be given preference.
- Financial need will be considered
