Capitol City Old Car Club Scholarship

The Capitol City Old Car Club (CCOCC) is a non‐profit organization serving Mid‐Michigan vehicle enthusiasts. The CCOCC was established in 1962, making it one of the oldest car clubs in Michigan. The club is incorporated by the state of Michigan, with headquarters in the Lansing area. The purpose of the club is to encourage an interest in antique, classic, and special interest vehicles; to exhibit such vehicles at car shows, cruise‐ins, and civic events; to exchange information and ideas on acquisition, preservation, restoration, and exhibition of these vehicles and to promote fellowship among persons with such interests. The CCOCC accepts all vehicle enthusiasts with or without an “old car”.

The club’s beginnings sprung from the dreams of about a dozen car enthusiasts whose backgrounds included an auto historian, an engineering student, and a car builder, that got together to talk about obtaining parts and exchanging ideas. After some time they felt that their club would be improved by involving their families, and with that, they now had a workforce to host an auto parts swap meet and car show. From the late 1960s to the early 2000s, the CCOCC hosted a Memorial Day Car Show at the Ingham County Fairgrounds in Mason. This was usually the first car show of the season and consisted of a parts swap, allowed participants to meet vendors, and enjoy food concessions in addition to the car show field. It was a two-day event that brought in hundreds of show-cars, vendors, and spectators. In 1992, proceeds from this swap meet/car show were used to purchase a piece of property south of Mason to build a clubhouse for meetings and events.

Throughout the years the CCOCC has always been involved in community service. Up until the COVID‐19 pandemic, the CCOCC conducted an annual Father’s Day Nursing Home Tour, where members would drive their classic vehicles to several Senior Assisted Living/Rehabilitation Facilities and Nursing Homes for the residents to enjoy. The club also sponsors a family through various Adopt‐A‐Family Programs each Christmas. With the sale of the clubhouse and property in 2015, the CCOCC was now in a financial position to be able to give more back to the community that has supported it for so many years. The CCOCC has donated to various charities in the Mid‐Michigan area such as the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum, Old Newsboys, City Rescue Mission, Greater Lansing Food Bank, Child and Family Charities, and Grand Ledge Emergency Assistance Program. This scholarship is a gift to the future auto-mechanics in mid-Michigan, for the purpose of providing financial assistance for Lansing Community College students in the Automotive Technology programs.
