Tom Benson

In 2005 brothers Jeff and Thomas Benson established the Hulon T. Benson, Jr Memorial Scholarship in memory of their father. The scholarship provides financial assistance to minority students entering the field of accounting. Hulon Benson took some accounting classes at the Lansing Business College but spent his life as a construction worker in the Lansing area.

Tom Benson graduated from Everett High School, came to LCC, and then transferred to Michigan State University. He and his brother Jeff are now both Certified Public Accountants. Tom volunteers as a mentor for youth and helps students gain academic and life skills that will serve them well as they mature. He has also worked as a tutor at LCC with the TRiO student support services program. Tom and Jeff chose to establish the Hulon T. Benson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship at LCC because of their close association with the college and their belief in the mission of LCC.
