Mieko Philips

Mieko Philips was born and raised in Japan. While in college, she came to the United States on a Rotary Exchange Program and studied at Michigan State University receiving a BA in psychology. She returned to Japan and completed her studies receiving a BA in English Literature with a minor in international relations. Mieko returned to Michigan State University to complete her MA and Ph.D. in linguistics. She has taught Japanese language and linguistics at Lansing Community College for over 30 years.

While at LCC, she has been active in providing students opportunities to study abroad and have educational experiences in other cultures. Mieko believes that goodness in human beings is enhanced by studying the humanities fields and she hopes the Meiko Kimura Philips Endowed Scholarship will advance this belief.
