Friends and Colleagues of Larry Meyer
Larry Meyer has enjoyed a long and distinguished business career, including three and a half decades at the head of the Michigan Retailers Association. He rescued that organization from near bankruptcy in the early 1970s and built it into the largest and most successful state retail association in the nation. He served as the Director of the State of Michigan Department of Commerce 1989-1990, appointed by Governor James J. Blanchard. He was elected twice to political office as a member of the Lansing City Council, serving 1997-2005; in 2002 as Council President. The city advanced during his tenure, as he worked cooperatively with council members, Mayor David Hollister and his team, and the public.
Mr. Meyer has always believed that public service is an important duty. He was first elected to office on November 3, 2009. He was re-elected on November 8, 2016, and his term ended on December 31, 2020. The Larry Meyer Scholarship was established by the LCC Foundation and Larry’s friends and colleagues to honor his service to LCC as a Trustee and his dedication to LCC students.
